Among Us
Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us… (Luke 1:1)
The entire prologue to Luke-Acts is intriguing because it gives a brief and unusual glimpse into early Christian communities and the occasion for why different gospel accounts were written. At least one of those reasons was to understand what was accomplished (or “fulfilled”) among us. Among us brings the gospel out of the past and into the present church.
When the gospels say that a certain thing was fulfilled, it often carries the connotation that it is something that God himself has brought to fulfillment, so Luke is compiling a narrative to describe not what God had done, but what he is doing.
So my question is: what would it be like for us to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us?
